UKCP Registered Psychotherapist

and Clinical Supervisor

Are you looking for an experienced, qualified and accredited counsellor or psychotherapist in Beckenham providing friendly, professional and confidential support?

My name is Margaret Lambert and I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and counsellor working in Beckenham, Kent which is on the edge of South East London, within easy reach of Bromley, West Wickham, Croydon and central London. I also offer sessions online .

I offer both counselling and psychotherapy to individuals or couples and have experience in working with a wide range of issues and personal, emotional and relationship problems. I am also a qualified and experienced clinical supervisor.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Both are known as 'the talking cures' and they each offer an opportunity to look at your problems in a safe and confidential environment and explore ways to make the changes you want with someone professionally trained to help.

Counselling is usually shorter-term work than psychotherapy and more focused on providing answers and solutions to immediate problems that you may be struggling with.

We may, for example, set a target for a particular goal that you wish to achieve. However, in the course of counselling work, issues sometimes emerge that you may want to address at a deeper level or you may already know that your difficulties are more complex or long-standing and will need some wider exploration and attention.

This is the function of psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy is a longer-term process of healing and change which offers the opportunity to look more deeply into your life, exploring your feelings, beliefs and thoughts, and often, their roots in your past. Together we would work to uncover the underlying causes of your difficulties in order to gain deeper understanding. As we work through this process I will support you to make the positive changes in your life that arise from your discoveries.

About our work together

During your journey through psychotherapy I will encourage you to use the time for reflection. Whatever is on your mind can be brought to the session and talked about. This could be feelings, thoughts, memories or dreams. I will listen and try to help you make sense of how you feel. As our relationship develops, you will discover new insights which can lead to finding different ways of dealing with the problems and feelings that you had been struggling with - often for many years.

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."

Maya Angelou

What can therapy help with?

Therapy can help with many different problems such as:

Bereavement or other loss

Loss of direction

Low self esteem

Difficulties in relationship with others – partners, family, work colleagues

Stress

Anxiety

Depression

Traumatic experiences, including physical illness or injury

Or perhaps you are not clear about what is causing your distress but are experiencing an underlying sense of sadness or dissatisfaction. Whatever your current difficulty, I will offer you an opportunity to explore and clarify your thoughts and feelings, listening carefully to what you say, without judging you.

You might decide that you need this support for just a few sessions, to sort out specific problems or you might decide you want to explore things more fully and deeply, and continue in therapy until you feel you have achieved this.

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Marcel Proust

How often would I need to come?

Sessions are regular and frequent so as to give as much continuity and support as possible. They last for 50 minutes and take place over a period of weeks, months or in longer-term work, a few years. Whilst the regularity of sessions is agreed from the outset (i.e. once or twice a week), the length of time that we work together will largely depend on you – the issues you bring, your motivation and other commitments. There will be plenty of opportunity for us both to explore how things are going.
